Modifications
|
- DIY 2001 cast iron Vortec #113 cylinder heads, lightly DIY ported, 227cfm/165cfm Intake/Exhaust,
GM LS2 beehive valve springs, 2001 factory 1.5 roller rockers
- Custom 218/218 .530" 115 LSA Comp Cams XFI camshaft, shifting at 5400 RPM
- Precision Turbo "PT51" 57mm turbo (maxxed out at 20 PSI on this combo), bought & installed new Nov. 2003
- Precision Turbo 3" stainless downpipe, ATR 3" stainless catback exhaust
- SMC Enterprises "Round Tank" dual nozzle Alcohol Injection kit (100% methanol), lets me keep the boost at 20+PSI full time
- 50# Delphi Fuel Injectors
- DIY realtime chip tune via laptop w/Moates Ostrich emulator,
TunerPro, wideband O2 datalogging into TTS DataMaster
- Max-effort 1985 700-R4 overdrive transmission w/5 pinion GM planetaries front & rear, custom
4340 steel 4WD output shaft, heat treated/reinforced input shaft/drum, 4th gear Super Servo, etc..
- Custom ~2700 RPM stall Yank billet 6-lug "PY3400E"
lockup torque converter
- CBR 12" LS1 PBR dual piston front brake upgrade
Here's the DataMaster file for the 11.45 @ 117.7 run:
The boost actually reads as low as 15.8 PSI and it still ran 11.45! I believe the
fluctuating boost control is due to reaching the efficient flow limit of the PT51. Also
notice the 100% Flat Line 0.0 Knock! :-) That is One Happy Machine on 93 octane/alky!

Download my DataMaster file
(the run got cut off just as I was going through the traps).

The fastest I went on the stock longblock (stock heads & cam) was on November 15th, 2003, my first
trip to the track the week after I installed the PT51 Turbo/Downpipe:
60': 1.751
1/8: 7.538 @ 93.15
1/4: 11.795 @ 114.18 on pure 93 octane pump gas (with alcohol injection) at
23-24 PSI, Max RPM: 4700
Here's the DataMaster file for that run:
Notice the extra long brake-torque, and the stock converter "stuck" at 2325 RPM
until the boost really comes online.

Download my DataMaster file.
- Factory original torque converter (~2200 RPM) and 700-R4 transmission (never rebuilt)
- Off the shelf V7 Ultimate chip, T3-24 (Download it off the chips page)
- Stock 28# Fuel Injectors, 42 PSI base fuel pressure
- SMC Enterprises "Round Tank" single nozzle Alcohol Injection kit (100% methanol)
- Precision Turbo "PT51" 57mm turbo (maxxed out at 23-24 PSI on this combo), bought & installed new Nov. 2003
- Precision Turbo 3" stainless downpipe, ATR 3" stainless catback exhaust
- Stock intercooler (Garrett air to water, DIY ported inlet, factory original pump hotwired)
- Cheap all season Sears "Viper HX" 245/50/16 tires on stock rims

The fastest I went on the stock turbo was on October 15th, 2003:
60’: 1.726
1/8: 7.768 @ 88.49
1/4: 12.269 @ 108.66 on pure 93 octane pump gas (with alcohol injection) at
20-21 PSI, Max RPM: 4650
To the best of my knowledge, this is the fastest time any Syclone has run on a stock turbo,
without modifying the stock wastegate to dump into a custom 3" downpipe. I had the stock 2.5"
downpipe, and the troublesome stock internal wastegate which caused my boost to always fluctuate
like a "roller coaster" on DataMaster. I felt like this time could definitely also have been
improved upon after I learned chip tuning. Here's the DataMaster file for that run:
"Record Setting Power as low as 2925 RPM!"

Download my DataMaster file.
- Factory Stock Mitsubishi "TD06 17C 8cm2" Turbo, DIY ported exhaust housing, maxed out at ~20 PSI on this combo
- Factory original torque converter (~2200 RPM) and 700-R4 transmission (never rebuilt)
- Off the shelf V7 Ultimate chip, T3-24
- Stock 28# Fuel Injectors, 32 PSI base fuel pressure (to compensate for alky on Pump Speed 10)
- SMC Enterprises "Round Tank" single nozzle Alcohol Injection kit (100% methanol)
- ATR 3" stainless catback exhaust, 2.5" test pipe
- Stock intercooler (Garrett air to water, DIY ported inlet, factory original pump hotwired)
- Cheap all season Sears "Viper HX" 245/50/16 tires on stock rims
Don't you wish all fast racers released this much specific information about
their race proven combos? Why don't they...?
